Why should I care if the company I choose to hire is fully insured?

When you choose to hire a company that is not fully insured or improperly insured, the homeowner can be held liable for property damage and injuries to employees during the process of tree removal. With one simple phone call to your homeowners insurance agent you can get accurate information on the consequences of hiring an uninsured or improperly insured company.
Your agent will tell you:
- Homeowners can be held liable for property damage and injuries to employees while trimming trees or removing them
- 1099 is meant for subcontractors not employees. Don’t be fooled by this tax loophole for businesses to lessen their tax burden
- Landscaping policies does not cover tree work claims
- You should require a certificate that shows coverage for tree work and workmans compensation and auto to be fully protected. Note don’t assume or take the contractor’s word on what insurance policies they say they have….ask for proof!
